St. Mary's Sewing Centre, run by the Diocesan Women’s Fellowship for Christian Service (DWFCS) under the Diocese of Durgapur, provides vocational and technical training to underprivileged girls and women. This training enables the women to access a sustainable means of livelihood and income generation through tailoring. It is a 6-months training program. The trainees are awarded certificates affiliated to Usha international School on clearing the examinations. Once the trainees leave the Centre they are eligible to apply for jobs in the open market as seamstresses or tailors or start their own micro business ventures. The centre also has a branch located in Simonpur, Purulia.
Mr. Gangadhar Dey, a master in Tailoring, has been an asset to the institute. Under his able hands and efficient assistance of Mrs. Tanushree Dasgupta, today the centre has surpassed its initial objective and has become a contributing and income generating unit of the Diocese.
